
Tamborine Mountain Ladies - Golf news
The 3rd
round of the 2008 Tri-series competition between Boomerang,
Canungra and Tamborine Mtn was held on the mountain on 14th
October. This year we had a record turnout of 43
competitors. The course and greens were in superb condition!
A big 'thank you' to greenkeeper Wayne and all his helpers.
Tamborine Mtn was victorious yet again, with help from all
22 ladies. Coming from behind, winning the day event with an
average of 31.94 pts with an overall score of 88.14 pts over
three rounds, knocking Canungra by just 0.55pts! Canungra’s
day average: 29.57, total: 87.59. Boomerang Farm’s day
average: 24.79, total: 81.71. The Shield stays put on the
mountain, where it belongs!
Kathrine Lim was the overall winner with a superb 42 pts.
Pam MacAllan was the winner of Canungra with 40 pts and
Julie Wharton of Boomerang with 34 pts.
On 22nd October, 17 ladies played a stroke and putt event
which was also the Medal of Medals, contested by past
Monthly Medal winners. As this is an honour board event, it
was keenly fought. Congratulations to Liz Howard (69 nett),
this year’s Medal of Medal winner. The day winner was Debbie
Keir with a brilliant 66 nett on countback from Narelle
Cooper. Best Putting: Julia Cornford with 27 putts.

Tamborine Mountain Ladies Golf News
On Tuesday 22nd the final round of the Dr. Vonda Youngman Trophy was played. This is a keenly contested Honour Board event and this year it is Annie Hay who will see her name printed as the 2008 winner.
With 67 stableford points for the two rounds and on the final day an eagle on the 4th hole, Annie proved to be a most worthy winner.

Tamborine Mountain ladies are off to a great start for the 2008 pennants season having defeated Clg/Twd 4/1 played at Helensvale on Monday 28th.
To complete a busy golf week the Shield day was played at Canungra on Tuesday 29th, in perfect winter sunshine. However, scores for the ladies were not as perfect as the weather, thus Canungra was the winning team for the day. The final shield round will be played at Tamborine on 14th October.
Club championship rounds will be played over the next three weeks so best wishes to all of you in your endeavour to have your name engraved on that prestigious golf trophy. BAA
Tamborine Mtn Open Day – L’Oreal Paris Ladies Cup
Tamborine Mtn Ladies Golf hosted a fabulous Open Day in conjunction with L’Oreal Paris Ladies Cup, a 4BBB Stableford event on 27th May. An excellent turnout of more than 60 ladies from clubs from as far as Brisbane, Toowoomba, the Gold Coast and the Hinterland enjoyed a near perfect day on our beautiful mountain course. The day started a bit chilly but eventuated to a glorious day. Our famous pumpkin soup was served between holes, later a sumptious lunch and delightful desserts before the presentation. Business at the raffle and ‘produce/food’ stalls was brisk!

Our mountain girls did great but were hard pushed by the spirited play of our many visitors. New friends were made and the flatlander competitors are welcome on the mountain any time.

On 16th October, 13 ladies contested the Medal of Medals. To qualify, the ladies had to have won a Monthly Medal in the past year.
It is an honour board event and therefore our ladies are keen to get in and then keen to win.
The scores were very competitive, but the winning score was stupendous!

The third and final round of the Tri-Series Shield match between Boomerang Farm, Canungra and Tamborine Mtn was played on the mountain on 9th October. The turnout was good from all three clubs on a beautiful day. The competition was friendly but competitive. The mountain girls did very well on the final day fight back with a superb average of 34.38pts followed by Canungra with 28.33pts and Boomerang with 26.33 pts. The day and overall winner:
Tamborine Mtn with a total score 94.21pts beating Canungra (91.32pts) and Boomerang (82.92pts).
Congratulations girls! You produced when it mattered! The Shield is retained yet again!

On 18th September, the President's and Captain's Trophies, a Single Stroke and Putts game was played. This was also the WGGC Trophy and the qualifying event for the ANZ Masters. The second round of the Ladies Club Championship on 10th July was fiercely contested.
The tension and stress took its toll and the fast and slippery greens were a topic of despair.
Only one woman handled the stress and tough conditions by playing to par:
the winner of the day - Lesley Brady - with a well earned nett of 72.

17th July was the final (showdown) round of the Club Championships. The winter morning started
sunny and cold but the atmosphere was hot with tension. Muscles tightened as minds focussed.
Scores were competitive and the greens were still giving grief, but we have the results!

Renee was also Gross Winner, consistent in all three rounds and surged in from behind and
won a well fought battle to claim the championship.

The morning started brutally cold and windy, but 17 ladies braved the wintery conditions.

The Club Championship, a 54-hole event is underway.
The first round on 3rd July, in conjunction with the Monthly Medal, attracted 18 ladies inspite of at least 9 regulars away sick, injured or holidaying.
It was a beautiful mild winter day with some wind; the course was as usual in great condition, but the greens were 'slippery'!
There were several 4-putts and countless 3-putts! The Monthly Medals winners were:

Tamborine Mtn Ladies Golf hosted the ever popular Open Day – Foursomes Competition on 29th May. An excellent turnout of nearly 70 ladies from 18 clubs from near and far. Players from as far as Brisbane, the Gold Coast and Hinterland and beyond enjoyed an interesting day on the mountain. It started a bit wet, then the sun came out with some intermittent showers and one big ‘pour’and some fog, but evolved to a glorious pre-wintery day.
Our famous pumpkin soup was served at the clubhouse between holes. Some visitors said they only come for the pumpkin soup! Business at the raffle and ‘produce/food’ stalls was brisk!

The finals of the Nan Wilson Match-Play were won by Lesley Brady, 2up with 3 holes to go over Evelyn Rabinowe. Congratulations to the President who coolly and cruelly wiped out the Captain.
The morning started wet and foggy from the unexpected but very welcomed rain overnight. 14 optimistic ladies turned up on 8th May and were treated to a very lovely day playing a Single Stableford event. It was also a wonderful birthday present for Hilda McNamara who had a fantastic hole-in-one on #5. Happy Birthday Hilda!
The winner of the event was Jill McGhie (the most optimistic because she drove all the way from home at Surfers under dark clouds), with a brilliant 44 pts which will slash her handicap by a few strokes. The second round of the 2007 Club Foursomes Championship on 17th April was fought to the wire between the three top pairs of competitors! The winners of the gross event came from behind to claim the Championship by one stroke! Congratulations to Lesley Brady & Liz Howard with a total gross score of 182. Joint runners-up were Evelyn Rabinowe & Hilda McNamara and Dell Goodrick & Jill McGhie. The winners of the nett event were Evelyn & Hilda with a total score of 142 nett.

A single stableford was also played amongst eight other ladies who did not participate in the Championship. The winner was Sandra Seaton on countback from Sheila Irvine-Brown with 33 pts. Tamborine Mtn Ladies Golf lost a very dear friend and ex member recently - Dorothy Johnston who passed away peacefully on 10th April. We pay tribute to a lovely, dear lady who left significant, wonderful memories of the times we had with her on the golf course. Dorothy loved her golf, played four times a week in three golf clubs and set an example walking 18 holes on Tamborine until she reached 80!

Due to the holiday season, only a small number of ladies competed in the Monthly Medal on April 3rd. The day was gorgeous and the course was in great condition, except for the newly cored greens which were unpredictable and the cause of frustration and some humiliation.

Our season heated up when 20 ladies showed up for a Single Stableford event on 20th February. The weather was fine with only a shower midway through.
Christine Youngman was the winner of the day with an impressive 39 pts.
Best front nine went to Tina Bull with 19 pts and back nine to Claire Attree with 20 pts.

On 27th February, 21 ladies turned up for a Pinehurst event. It was a very pleasant golf day - comfortable temperature and great conditions. With the new tee-off time at 8am, most ladies welcomed being were back at the clubhouse by 12.30pm for lunch and winner's presentation.

Ladies, why stay at home on a rainy Tuesday morning? Come to the Clubhouse to enjoy a social morning of bridge, card games, scrabble or just a cup of coffee and a chat.
Congratulations to Katy Hewitt who was runner up last Saturday with 43 stableford points and as a result sees another considerable handicap drop.

Following the game, we held our Ladies 46th Annual General Meeting after the presentation of the trophies for the year. A lovely lunch was attended by nearly 30 ladies. President Lynne Anderson thanked the outgoing committee for the good year’s work and welcome the new Ladies Committee for 2007:
