Meet "Andy" our Resident PGA Professional Our PGA Professional is Andrew “Andy” Koureas - he has been with us for more than 10 years. Andy has been a full-time PGA Professional for 35 years. During his career Andy has: - regularly played the Australian and New Zealand PGA circuits - spent 7 years as a full-time Teaching Professional, in Western and Northern New South Wales - worked as a 'resident' Professional for more than almost 25 years. 12 of those years at The Willows Golf Club in Townsville, Queensland (where he was also the 'founding' Professional) with the balance at Tamborine Mountain Golf Club. - competed in the Australian Open on 9 occasions. He lead the second round of the Open in 1983. He "rubbed shoulders" at the Open with golfing megastars such as Nicklaus, Trevino, Gary Player and Greg Norman. - played the 'Asian' circuit (Singapore, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, Taiwan, Thailand) in 1977 Andy ‘came up the hard way’ gaining an official Bonnie Doon Caddy Pass at the age of 10. That allowed him to play Bonnie Doon, free of charge, 3 days a week. As a Schoolboy Golfer Andy was tutored by 2 of Australia’s then top Professionals – Wally Gale and Mike Kelly. During his 4 year Schoolboy Golfer career Andy won in the order of 15 Tournaments. At age 15 he joined the Club as a ‘Junior’ - this allowed him to also play in Senior Tournaments. At age 20 he registered as an Trainee Golfer. He was soon rewarded with a ‘National Invite’, to play in Australia-wide competitions. He won 15 Tournaments as a Trainee. |
